Development and Fabrication of a Mechanically Actuated 3Way Medical Laboratory Centrifuge

HT27

Vector carried diseases (mosquito borne diseases such as Dengue and Malaria) are a major health burden in India and other parts of the world. A major hurdle in the fight against these diseases is the inaccessibility of proper diagnostic health care in epidemic areas such as villages and other remote areas. There is a need for an affordable, accessible health care system which can be used in these areas.
The introduction of such a system shall significantly help to reduce the spread of such diseases and help to reduce their burden not only in India, but also around the world. The primary objective of the 3-way centrifuge system is to provide a viable alternative to the current systems by reducing the restrictions on its usage. By providing different modes of working (electrical, battery run and mechanical actuation) in the same product, the 3-way system increases its application and usage range.
Thus the system applicable to all types of resource environments. The 3-way actuated centrifuge provides a viable, low cost alternative to current laboratory systems which can be used in low resource settings such villages and rural health centres. The mechanical actuation provides a simple method which does not require any preparation or utilities such as batteries or electricity.
