Automated Lawn Mower robot

It is a robot used to cut or mow grass at the specified height using blue tooth interface to control the movements of the robot via mobile applications. A typical robotic lawn mower requires the user to set up a border wire around the lawn that defines the area to be mowed. The robot uses this wire to locate the boundary of the area to be trimmed and in some cases to locate a recharging dock. Robotic mowers are capable of maintaining up to 30,000 m2 (320,000 sq ft) of grass. The students are in the process of applying for Design Patent for this project.

Design and Development of a Compact Waste Shredder Machine

The unwanted solid waste materials obtained from human activities in residential, industrial or in commercial areas adversely affect environmental ecosystem due to inappropriate disposal of solid waste which pollutes soil, air and water. In this regard, for effective solid waste processing, waste shredders can be utilised in recycling applications. These machines can considerably reduce the volume of wastes that differ in dimensions, weight and composition to uniform shape and sizes for efficient processing, storing and ease transportation issues. The objective of this project is to design and develop a compact waste shredder machine with high reliability and efficiency for shredding the solid waste viz. plastics, thin metal strips, twigs and wood ranging from macro to micro size and thereby to reduce the transportation and further processing (recycling) issues.

Design and Development of a Bio Catalytic Devise for Air Pollutant Adsorption

Air pollution is considered as one of the largest environmental health threats in the world. Scientists and researchers have been working tirelessly to reduce it using existing or novel materials. Use of porous solid adsorbent materials is being studied extensively right now. Because of its large specific surface area, abundance of functional groups, and strong adsorption capacity, activated carbon is widely used to treat various types of carbon-based gases for post-combustion CO2 capture from exhaust systems. Activated carbon captures CO2 mainly through physical adsorption due to the characteristics of surface structure and pore structure.The capacity of the materials can be further enhanced and made more specific through various surface treatment methods. The incorporation of metal/metal oxides or the addition of acidic/basic functionalities improves the pollutant removal capacity. The objective of this project is, hence, to design a catalytic chamber to house the bio-catalytic material which is obtained from bamboo residue converted into activated charcoal and doped with MgO Nanoparticles.The designed model is then fabricated to test the prototype’s adsorption efficiency for different gases which are emitted from the exhaust system of automobiles.

Agrotona

Agrotona is a management device which will take care of farms and terrace gardens. It is an electronic device which calculates the amount of water required for lands which in turn adjusts to the fluctuating evaporation rates and moisture content by compensating for it by spraying water. In this system, the evaporation rate and moisture level both have been considered to make it more effective in working. The objective of the project is to develop a system which can be employed to manage the water resources effectively whenever required by the plants for irrigation purpose and to improve the overall yield of cultivation and reduce the requirement of human effort. E Management is an electronic device which calculates the amount of water required for lands which in turn suddenly reacts to the fluctuating evaporation rates and moisture by compensating for it by spraying water. In this system the evaporation and moisture level both have been considered to make it more effective in working. In further steps we would like to get like notifications or recordings to monitor the humidity in soil. In this deice there is no complex interface or anything similar. Additionally there is no need to update the interface every time. In practice, I is very difficult analyses the amount of water that is required for each plant per day manually. Therefore by using this, we can easily analyze the requirement of water. This can be implemented into large farms such as paddy fields and arecanut farms.

Development of a robot to collect oil from ocean surface

The main objective of the project is to collect and recover the crude oil from the ocean surface. The device is provided with suction head to suck the oil and this oil is pumped into the separator tank which is divided into two parts. One part consists oil absorbing material to recover oil and second part is the settling tank the water is allowed to follow out of e-separator tank. The prototype is propelled using a DC motor and controlled by radio controller.

Design and Fabrication of Eco-Friendly Device for CO2 Adsorption

Carbon dioxide is considered as a major contributor towards global warming. The amount of carbon dioxide from automobiles is approximately 65%, which is more than any other sources of emissions. Automobile vehicle engine exhaust after treatment design has become very important because exhaust emissions standards are ever increasing. In this work, an attempt was made to capture CO2 emission from automobile exhaust using Activated carbon. The concept of physical adsorption by Van der walls forces of attraction, CO2 found to be adsorbed on the surface of activated carbon. This device is nothing but an extension of the silencer. The device contains mainly bio degradable materials such as coconut coir, activated charcoal, corn cob etc. Final results obtained shows that considerable amount of HC, CO, and CO2 gets reduced. Activated carbon found to be a suitable one for CO2 capture from engine exhaust and it has great scope to be implemented in a vehicle exhaust system.
