Money Bin

One of the biggest problems in India is maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings, especially at public places. There are several dustbins in public places such as railway stations and parks. However, in many instances, littering continues to pose a serious problem. Our idea is to provide a small incentive/reward for each person who contributes to the program by using the product, Money Bin. The incentives motivate public to use the dustbins at public places, thereby reducing the littering. The project Money Bin consists android application, RFID mechanism and a compartment used for segregation of the waste disposed. On successful disposal, points are awarded to the users. The users’ account details and rewards earned are stored in Firebase cloud database for further retrieval of information. The two major problem in India regarding waste disposal is the lack of usage of dustbins in public places and collection of plastic waste when uncollected poses serious problems to the environment. To address the first problem, we have come up with a reward based system to give the user incentives every time he/she uses the dustbin. This we hope will encourage the public to use dustbin more frequently. To address the second problem, we have designed a compartment that fits in between two dustbins that automatically segregates the waste disposed into plastic and non plastic waste. Thereby, aiming for a cleaner India and educating the citizens to keep their surroundings clean.

Fire Dire

Forest fire also called wild brush or vegetation fire, can be described as any uncontrolled and non-prescribed combustion or burning of plants in a natural setting such as a forest, grassland, bushland or tundra. Forest fire prevention refers to pre emptive methods aimed at reducing the risk of forest fires as well as reducing their severity and spread. Strategies for wild fire prevention, detection, control and suppression have varied over the years. Several methods were incorporated for fire detection in the past. However, information analysis and delivery was often delayed by limitation in communication technology. Accurate human observation maybe limited by operator fatigue, time of day, time of year and geographic location. To overcome this, we have come up with a product called Fire Dire. The project “Fire Dire” uses GPS module, GSM module, thermal sensor and smoke detector to send the information about fire and its location to the nearest forest office. The data from these sensors along with the location from GPS module will be sent periodically to the cloud. An app developed for this purpose will help them to predict the possibility of an impending forest fire.

Smart Dustbin with Automatic Segregation and Collection

The Internet of Things is trending with its ever expanding Eco-system of digital sensors, appliances and wearable smart devices. The growth of the world’s population, increasing urbanisation, rising standards of living, and rapid developments in technology have all contributed to an increase in both the amount and the variety of solid wastes generated by domestic, industrial and other related activities. The traditional methods of waste collection are found very inefficient to handle the waste. Thus, development of smart solid waste management systems which will help us solve these problems to an extent. The main aim of the project is to build a system which automatically separates wet and dry based on moisture sensor as well as metallic sensor and collected in different bins. Automatic Segregation will also simplify the process for pedestrians to identify the type of bin they need to throw the garbage in. The Waste Management system in smart cities with garbage bins will also have an ultrasonic sensor to sense the level of garbage along with GPS Module to get the real time location of bin. This helps in collecting the garbage in regular intervals by garbage collectors which is monitored by Android application.

Human Energy Harnessing using Bicycle

Human Energy Harnessing is the process of extraction of energy from human beings using physical work. One of the processes used to achieve this is the Pedal Power Generation. This technology harnesses energy from power exerted from pedaling a bicycle and can be used to generate electricity or operate mechanical devices. Thus considerable amount of energy while pedaling can be harvested effectively using simple battery charging circuits. The main aim of the pedalite project is to design a source of lighting that is reliable and durable and can be used to light up homes or schools in areas that are un electrified. The objective of the project is to design a non-conventional, electro-mechanical based energy storage system. To generate and save power as well as motivate people to maintain a healthy life. To electrify the parts of the country which still have no access to electricity, switch over to battery driven bicycle or normal mode of transportation. This is the best way of power generation having less environmental impact. In this project human energy is used as the source to generate power by pedaling bicycle, which in-turn gives mechanical energy and this mechanical energy is converted into electricity through permanent magnet DC generator.

Detachable Smart Faucet

Water management and safe sanitation are key challenges in today’s world, and efforts are being made to overcome this challenge. In order to avoid water crisis, we should design and contribute to innovative and life changing products which will help billions of people lead a healthy lifestyle. Automatic faucets have the advantage of shutting off automatically after washing hand, thereby reducing wastage of water. There is a necessity to develop a smart faucet that monitors water consumption and is detachable, affordable, and hygienic and user friendly. This project aims at developing an embedded system, ‘Detachable Smart Faucet’ that monitors and controls the water flow through faucets and uploads the water consumption data to a database that is accessible by the user. The smart faucets presently available in market are quite expensive and are easily not affordable. Also the entire existing tap setup has to be changed in order to install the automatic faucet which incurs additional cost. The proposed design overcomes these drawbacks and provides additional features.

Automatic Waste Segregator

Waste management is becoming a hot topic in policy circles. Municipal governments, which are largely responsible for building and maintaining waste disposal networks, are keen to find ways of minimizing the cost of disposing of waste and the sheer amount of waste society products. Exposure to various hazardous wastes can affect human health, children being vulnerable to the pollutants. Direct dumping of untreated waste in rivers, seas, and lakes results in the accumulation of toxic substances in the food chain through the plants and animals that feed on it. The main objective of this project is to design a system using Arm Cortex LPC2148 microcontroller for automatic segregating of waste at source and capable of cleaning. This project aims to design an automatic segregator bin which can segregate the waste at source that helps in reducing the time taken for processing, and segregation work done for large amounts of waste in the later stages. It includes different partitions for collection of different wastes using sensors, with a LCD display which updates the status of the bin. The bin uses a vacuum cleaning mechanism for cleaning purpose. The system uses IR sensor for obstacle detection. Moisture sensor is used to detect wet materials or wet wastes containing moisture elements. Metal sensor is used to detect the metal based on relay, i.e. if any metal waste is placed near to metal detector, the relay is turned on. It is based on the principle of Electromagnetic induction. LCD display is used to display the status of the bin. Ultrasonic sensor estimates the distance of the obstacles in the front and sends message saying if the bin is full or not through GSM. This bin can be useful at places like offices, apartments, shopping malls etc. this system will be useful in making Waste Management in smart cities automated.

Smart Water Purification Using Bio Adsorbant

India is facing water crisis and it is necessary to critically consider approaches to treat water so that it is suitable for use. The Proposed method of water treatment aims to remove pollutants from the water. Reverse osmosis is one of the oldest and most popular separation techniques used mainly for the purification of water. The process was mainly adopted for desalination of seawater in the year 1950, where the whole process was relatively slow and limited to certain laboratories. While reverse osmosis technology is one of humanity’s important scientific innovations, we will develop a basic understanding of the whole process here on this page. It works by forcing water through a special fine membrane to eliminate impurities that may not be visible to the naked eye. These membranes remove impurities based on their size and shape. This means that particles larger than water molecules cannot pass through the filter. The membrane blocks harmful chemicals and contaminants such as pesticides, viruses, microorganisms, ions, and bacteria, amongst others.
